Where’s the Warmth?
This winter reminds me of the seasons we had when I was a kid with so much snow and cold, there wasn’t even a glimpse of bare ground for months at a time. We had snow banks taller than I was at the time and we had a great time playing in the snow and cold.
Staying warm is so important and we have all heard that layering is the way to keep warm for longer spells outdoors. Another good point is that mittens, particularly made with heavy wool, leather or suede, are one way to keep your hands warm.
The new thing now is glittens, that have partial finger coverings but allow you to pull back the mitten section so you can use your fingers if needed. Those are fine, but are not as warm as good, old fashioned mittens, like grandma used to knit.
Heavy wool socks, on top of your regular cotton or acrylic socks are best with lined boots on your feet. Some people believe that if you feet are warm, you be more likely to feel warm all over. Certainly, when your toes are cold, you don’t feel like you are ready for the elements.
In the coldest of the cold days, wear a hat and a scarf that you can wrap around your face in a stiff wind. However, when the temperatures drop below zero and the wind chill is ten or more below, nothing is going to keep you warm for too long, so go indoors as often as you can to thaw out.
