The Wisdom of Weights

I have discussed the fact that I use hand weights and sometimes wrist weights to enhance my workout sessions.  Doing several sets of repetitions is one way to help turn fat into muscle.

Conventional wisdom on this topic will advice that it is best to lift weights every other day, instead of daily.  This is because some miniscule tearing in the muscle fibers occurs when you use weights and a recovery period will help rebuild the fibers so that you can continue to build your strength with larger weights or more repetitions.

Start a program with either three or five pound weights and after a few weeks you can move up to eight pounds and then after this starts to feel to easy for you, go up to ten pound hand weights.

I am only using five pounds right now because I have been inconsistent about my regimen and am not feeling ready to graduate to a higher level yet, but will do so when things get too easy.  Moving up is not an all-or-none decision, you can still do the harder exercises with the old light weights and the easier ones with the heavy ones.  Try to do stick with every other day, as opposed to every other week, like me.Embarassed
