IF YOU LOVE THIS BLOG, SEE MY OTHER BLOG CAREERMYSTERIES.TODAY.COM.  DO IT TODAY! Here we go again, off to Vacationland - the good old state of Maine.  Aya.  I love it there.  The people are so laid back and funky.  The trees are a little taller and much fuller and you can really breathe.  The weather looks crappy but the fish will be biting for sure.

When you head out to your vacation nirvana this summer.  Keep one thing at the very top of your list - safety.  That means you need to prepare for contingencies like asking yourself these questions.

  • Where is the nearest hospital and how do we get there (if you are GPS-less)?
  • Do I have a first aid kit or at least bandages and disinfectant?
  • Did I bring life jackets for the boat, canoe or kayaks?
  • Do I have plenty of sunscreen and a hat for each person?
  • Do I have all my medication and a back up supply?
  • Who in our group is CPR and First Aid trained?
  • Do I have the clothes I need for any weather issues?
  • Do I have bug spray and repellent?
  • Do I need an Epi pen for sting allergies?
  • Do I need any Personal Protective Equipment for sports or hiking?

This may seem like a lot to think about but it really is easy stuff once you get the supplies the first time you go into the woods or out in the elements.  Have a terrific time and enjoy every relaxing moment of your vacation.  I know I will.

    Ms. Therese,

Very good article and some great tips. I love Maine but I haven’t been there in years. My father was born there and when we lived in Connecticut we use to travel up there a lot. I loved to go out to this one restaurant on the pier that offered fresh lobster. I love lobster, it is one of my favorite foods. I agree that as we go on vacation and spend time outdoors that we must consider safety. I wrote a similar article offering safety tips for the summer in my Blurt: Summertime Fun in the Sun Safety. When you get some time please take a look at it. I would love to hear your comments.

    Have a great day!
